Are you tired of the same old green plastic grass and chocolate foil eggs? Here are some fun ideas for alternative Easter basket stuffers!

It’s hard to think about what types of things to purchase for Easter baskets when you are facing a store aisle full of chocolate bunnies, bags of malted milk eggs and tons of brightly colored plastic eggs. But children love to find fun, unique items on Easter morning, so here are some ideas to help you ‘think outside the basket.’

Decorate Your Own

If you’re lucky enough to have a Target store near you, the store really has a fantastic holiday section and in their Easter section you can find a few different “Decorate Your Own” kits like decorate-your-own Marshmallow Peeps, different sizes and styles of eggs, other fun decorating candy kits. These are great for kids’ Easter baskets because it gives them something to do as well as to eat! You could also include an egg decorating kit in your child’s basket, and with a dozen eggs in your refrigerator you will both have fun decorating your own eggs later in the day.

Practical Matters

Easter Baskets are a great way to stock up on more practical items that you can ‘call’ a gift by tucking them into an Easter basket. A new spring t-shirt, cute spring socks, a baseball hat, flip-flops, and hair accessories are some ideas for items that your child will get more use from than jellybeans! A new pair of spring pajamas would also be cute, or a book they’d like to read.

Get Crafty

Another great idea for Easter baskets is arts and craft supplies. New markers, crayons, coloring books, pads of paper, paints, glitter glue, and bead kits are perfect for Easter baskets because of their small size- and they are the gift that keeps on giving when your child spends time creating spring works of art! The Easter section of your store has some special Easter crafts as well, like cute pastel colored egg-shaped sidewalk chalk. Here are some more ideas for fun Easter crafts for kids.

A Few of Their Favorite Things

Is your child into Littlest Pet Shop toys? Barbies? Pokemon cards? Chances are a retailer near you has a special “Easter edition” of their favorite collectibles – especially things like Webkinz and Beanie Babies are fun to find. It’s a nice treat for your children to find something in their Easter basket that is uniquely them!

Some other cute Easter basket stuffers to consider: movie tickets, a DVD of a movie they've been wanting to see, earrings, or a handheld game.
