Strategies to organize the bathroom for your family's personal needs.

Organizing your bathroom is a time consuming task that is well worth the effort. Often we neglect the bathroom because it is not on anyone’s top priority list. However, according to the principles of Feng Shui, the bathroom in the home represents the wealth of the family. Wealth is a great motivator for organizing your bathroom and deciding what to keep or discard.

Organization Tips

1. After a thorough cleaning of the bathroom, it is time to properly place your personal products and accessories in the room.

2. Discard any product that is over 1 year old. Old mascara, make up, cold creams, deodorants, as well as items without an expiry date such as hairbrushes, clips or old rusty nail clippers.

3. Fit your bathroom cupboards with storage units. There are a multitude of storage units that are inexpensive and easy to install at local department and hardware stores.

4. Place everyday items in convenient locations. Store less used products in the lower drawers or at the back of a cupboard. You will have to experiment with a few systems to find one that works for your family. For example, if you have small children you will not want to place beauty products in the lower shelves even if they are not used often unless you want a big mess.

5. Place hooks on the walls and back of doors for housecoats, towels, wet swim suits. Also, take the electric toothbrushes and hairdryers and secure them on the wall to free up counter space.

6. Position a decorative toilet paper holder beside the toilet for easy use. Buy the more luxurious ones as it symbolizes wealth and you thinking of yourself first. As well, buy the better quality toilet paper, just wait for the sales.

7. Use a hand soap dispenser for cleaning hands. Filling them is easy and less germs and mess is created.

8. Install a basket in the shower/bath to hold the shampoos and other products. There are a variety of styles on the market.

9. If room is available place a storage unit in the bathroom to hold all your bath towels. If storage is limited install shelves similar to the ones in hotels to store your towels.

10. Have a designated spot for wet or dirty towels.

11. Keep your extra supplies in one drawer/cupboard for easy access.

TipsAlways have a place for everything in the bathroom to keep it tidy and neat.

A well thought-out bathroom allows you to relax in the warmth of the bath, rather than stress about what needs to be cleaned.

Organize your bathroom, at least once a year.
