Organizing Seasonal ClothingTips for Putting Fall and Winter Back and Spring and Summer Forward!
Letting your home get bogged down with piles of clothing can be daunting. Here are some ways to organize your seasonal clothing.
Here are some excellent ways to get started on the often-daunting chore of organizing your clothing for a new season when it is time to put fall and winter back and bring spring and summer forward. Get It All OutFirst, you will want to bring out everything you are going to be dealing with in terms of clothing. Clear a large space either on a large bed or floor and bring clothes out of bags, boxes, storage containers and drawers. Having all the clothing laid out (even if it creates a huge messy pile) in front of you will help you be able to make the necessary decisions about how to store the items. Also have a pile of clothes hangers ready for items you’d like to hang right away. Contain YourselfCollect the materials you will need to organize the clothing at hand. Empty cardboard boxes or large clear plastic storage containers are a must. Labels or a roll of masking tape will work for labeling the clothes once they are sorted, and you will also need a bold permanent marker. Label at least four large empty containers with titles like “Spring and Summer,” “Fall and Winter,” “Consignment,””Donate,” etc depending on what types of clothes you will be sorting. Check with your recycling company to see if they accept clothing, because you could fill a bag with torn, stained, or other clothing you no longer need. One Thing at a TimePick up each item of clothing. Consider where it needs to be placed, fold it neatly, and put it in the appropriate container. Make a new pile for things which will be placed in your drawers or on your shelves when you are finished sorting. Have a laundry hamper handy for items you would like to wash before wearing. If your clothes sorting involves the clothing of your child, have the child present so you can see if items still fit or if they will still like/want the item. If you have open shelving for your clothing, consider sorting items by color. There are many websites where you can find help in organizing your clothing. Take a look at organizedwithstyle.com, lifeorganizers.com, howtoorganizestuff.com or simply Google “How to Organize Clothes” and you will find many sites and products to help you get started. No matter how you choose to proceed, you will feel better about your home once you have tackled the task of organizing your clothing.
