Stop Telemarketing Calls Quickly and Easily

The National Do Not Call Registry Brings Quiet to the Dinner Table

Telemarketers call at the worst times, pitching prizes while trying to push goods and services on consumers. The National Do Not Call Registry is available to help.

Dinnertime telephone calls are worse than annoying, but constant interruptions to one's daily schedule makes for a stressful situation. Telemarketers have a job to do, but the calls are a nuisance just the same. Hanging up on telemarketers is not the answer because it does not solve the problem.

Stop telemarketing calls from interrupting dinner, work, and family activities for good. Register land line phone numbers and mobile phone numbers by registering with the National Do Not Call Registry, a government agency that will put a stop to the telephone marketing problem on an individual basis.

Steps to Utilizing the National Do Not Call Registry

The National Do Not Call Registry is a list of phone numbers telemarketers are not allowed to call. Registration is fast, easy, and will put a little peace and quiet back into the consumer's day.

  • Register. Registration takes only a few minutes and can be done online or by telephone. Information on the National Do Not Call Registry home page states, "Your registration will not expire. Telephone numbers placed on the National Do Not Call Registry will remain on it permanently due to the Do-Not-Call Improvement Act of 2007, which became law in February 2008."
  • Wait 31 Days. Consumers should wait 31 days for numbers entered into the registry to become active on the list. Telemarketers are not allowed to call a registered number after the 31 day period.
  • Reporting Violators. If a telemarketing company persists in calling a registered number, then the owner can complain on the National Do Not Call Registry Web site. The complaint form for telemarketing violations is easy to complete and violators can be prosecuted for breaking the law.

The Federal Trade Commission removes numbers from the National Do Not Call Registry that have been disconnected and assigned to new customers.

Any consumer who changes his mind and wishes to have his phone number removed from the registry may visit the National Do Not Call Registry Web site to have his number deleted. Customers should note that in order to remove a number the call must be made from the telephone number to be deleted.

The Federal Trade Commission Protects Consumers

According to the Federal Trade Commission, more than 157 million phone numbers are registered in the National Do Not Call Directory. The FTC Web site offers consumers tips and advice for avoiding telemarketing fraud in the article, "Facts for Consumers" (November 2007), and describes the legal telemarketing sales rules legitimate telemarketers must follow.

Constant telephone calls throughout the day and in the evening are disruptive enough, but telephone scams add to the problem. Anyone can be victimized by fraudulent telemarketing schemes. It's up to the consumer to be aware of telemarketing sales rules and know the harassing sales calls can be stopped completely by registering all phone numbers with the National Do Not Call Registry.

Legitimate telemarketers may be promoting a valid product or service, but the constant deluge of interrupting calls is stressful to the consumer. There is no need to put up with the aggravation and disruption when help is available. Telemarketing calls cease within 31 days after a consumer's phone number is registered on the National Do Not Call Registry. The peace and quiet – especially at dinnertime – is well worth the few minutes it takes to register a telephone number.

I have 3 phone numbers on the Do-Not-Call-Registry and until recently I was still geting at least 3 calls a day. However, I have now found a new tool to stop these annoying calls. The best way to stop Telemaketing Robo Calls is to press the number to speak to a rep, and then when they answer, yell into the receiver "F-off and die" and then hang up. I find that this is the only way to stop the company from calling you again, or selling your number to the next robo-marketers. Just make sure your windows are closed and cup your hand over the receiver so that most of the sound goes into the receiver and not through your walls and into your neighbor's home. And, after doing this you will feel happy and very energised!
