Are you hosting a Superbowl football party for friends or family? Here are some ways to tackle the fun!

Super Bowl parties are tons of fun. They’re casual events where friends and family can gather without having to dress up or serve fancy food. Here are some super tips.

Superbowl Food

Unlike holiday food, Superbowl food can be easy and casual. Chips and dip, veggies, pickles and olives, and heavy hors d’oeuvres should do it. Pick a few easy-to-make favorites like chicken wings, chili, artichoke or spinach dip, or homemade pizza. Or, you could simply order a big deli tray from the supermarket and let guests make their own sandwiches. People will be more likely to ‘graze’ than to sit down and eat a big meal, so choose foods that are portable for them to carry between the kitchen and the TV room. For dessert, your local grocery store probably has football-shaped cookies or a football chocolate chip cookie cake.

Superbowl Commercials

Many people enjoy the high-dollar commercials that play during the game even more than the contest itself. So add to the fun and have a “Vote for the Best Superbowl Commercial” contest where guests can pick their favorites- count ballots and announce which commercial was the party favorite! It will be fun the next day to read about which were the favorites nationwide and how they compare to your party’s selections.

Game On

Some of your guests, particularly if you are in a city with a competing team, are going to want to seriously watch the game. Set up your TV room with comfortable chairs and floor pillows, throws or blankets (if it’s cold) so people can get comfy on the floor when the chairs run out. Set the food in a different room like the kitchen or dining room so people can mingle and eat in a room where there isn’t so much screaming.

Kids Activities

If there will be kids at your party, set up a separate space for them in a bedroom or other room. Have coloring books and crayons, construction paper, craft supplies, kids movies, games and if you can manage it- a babysitter!- to keep the kids busy and out of the grown-ups’ way.

Root for the Home Team

If your team’s playing, you’ve got to create a cherry atmosphere. Buy cheap rolls of crepe paper at the dollar store or party store in your team’s colors and twist and hang them around the party area. Find a retailer that carries NFL items and get some flags, banners, or other items to show your team pride.

Superbowl parties can be a ton of fun for kids of all ages. They are an inexpensive, laid back chance to hang out with your friends and family. Some easy planning in advance can ensure you all have a touchdown of a time!
