Home retailer giant takes economy into account and offers families much-needed savings in recession- just in time for the holidays.

In an economic downturn, many homeowners and families are looking for ways to save money. The approach of the holiday season combined with the current recession has not gone unnoticed by America's biggest retailers. Target has announced they are making price cuts to holiday-related items for the home including toys, sporting goods, and other gift items.

Target Executives Speak

"We are confident that we have low prices every day," said Tony Fisher, Target divisional merchandising manager, toys and sporting goods, about the new price cuts for the holidays. "We continually shop the competition so our guests don’t have to, and the additional discounts will help our guests make the most of their budgets this holiday season."

Price Reductions

Beginning last week and through the holiday season, a selection of toys will be discounted up to 50 percent. Some of these discounted items include: Barbie Fashion Doll ($5), GI Joe Tough Troopers Figure ($14.99), and the Fisher-Price Little People Play ‘N Go Farm Set 50th Anniversary edition ($11). The full assortment of discounted toys can be found online at Target.com/weeklyad.

Target's Low Price Promise

Target offers a budget-friendly solution for families looking for this year’s hottest toys at the lowest possible prices. In addition to keeping to its long-standing commitment to providing shoppers with exceptional value, Target will match locally advertised prices on the toys it carries as well as other merchandise in the store.

Through Target’s Low Price Promise, customers are assured they are getting the best price on all items this holiday season as well as throughout the year. If Target does not offer the lowest price, Target stores nationwide will match locally advertised prices from competitors on identical single items (defined as the same brand and model number during the effective date of its ad, or within seven days of a prior purchase).

Target Adds Stores, Jobs

In other news, Target announced this week the opening of 26 new stores. Twenty-one locations are general merchandise stores, 18 of which have expanded food options. Five locations are full-grocery SuperTarget stores. The stores will celebrate grand openings on Sunday, Oct. 11. These new Target store openings will help support local economies around the country by creating more than 5,000 new jobs. Interested individuals can apply for positions at www.Target.com/careers or apply at the new stores.
