Moving from one location to another can be extremely stressful. Use these suggestions to help keep your sanity and all your items.

With movers and boxes and new rooms and furniture, it can be really hard to keep up with what's what transitioning from one place to another. This tips can help keep moving less stressful and more organized.

Planning

Make sure its clear ahead of time how things are going to be packed up, what the schedule for leaving and moving is, and any other particulars that may be necessary. Organize things by rooms, and make sure possessions stay in their individual rooms, that way nothing gets mixed up when getting packed by the movers.

Organization

Keep everything organized to the max. Organize the books together, organize important papers together, keep all the stuff to be sold in a garage sale(preferably done well before the movers arrive) separate from the stuff that will be moving to the new place. Once all the boxes are packed, make sure they are all labeled correctly. It is extremely frustrating to have things labeled incorrectly, and have to search all over the boxes to try and find the right things later.

Avoid Storage

Whenever possible, avoid having to put things in a large moving storage facility. One of the most common times for boxes to get lost is when they have to stay in a mover's storage facility because the house was not ready for immediate move-in, or other complications came around. Make sure that whenever possible, there will be no holding in a storage facility, unless it is one that has been personally rented.

Map a Route

Unless the move is two blocks over, moving generally takes a lot of time and effort. Often, the traveling alone can take days. If animals are involved, it can take even longer. Make sure that the entire route is mapped ahead of time, so that things like animal-friendly hotels, restaurants, and quick break stops can be mapped out ahead of time, so that you can arrive with plenty of time to rest before the movers show up at the door. Otherwise, it becomes an inconvenience and a pain for everyone.

Remember to Relax

Most importantly, remember to breathe and relax when moving. If something goes unplanned, be sure to relax and take it in stride along with all the other events, and try to work around it. Over-reacting to a bad situation just makes things more difficult. Plan ahead, keep everything organized, and try to keep a level head regardless of the situation, and moving will go smoothly to the end.
